About the Exhibition:
Anthony Gallery is pleased to announce Time of Our Lives, an inaugural group exhibition featuring 27 international contemporary artists. The gallery’s Tokyo debut launches their collaboration at Shibuya’s The Mass, a modular contemporary art space designed by Nobuo Araki.
Time of Our Lives bridges the gallery’s Chicago roots with its global ambitions, positioning promising emerging artists in dialogue on an international stage. The exhibition celebrates an array of material and conceptual voices, showcasing a diverse program that prioritizes identity and cross-cultural awareness.
The resulting space serves as a community touchpoint for cultural exchange in Tokyo’s bustling Harajuku neighborhood, fostering new conversations across artistic disciplines in Chicago, Japan, and beyond. The modular design and international approach of Time of Our Lives mirrors Tokyo’s vibrant arts and culture scene. Known for its eclectic blend of tradition and contemporary innovation, the Shibuya district has long been considered a global nexus for creative exchange. This is particularly true of neighborhoods like Harajuku, where fashion, music, and art collide to form a community like no other.
By placing artists in this context, the exhibition reflects Tokyo’s ongoing embrace of global influences alongside its rich tradition of preservation. Similarly, Anthony Gallery’s partnership with The Mass will carry on this legacy by curating vibrant solo and group exhibitions that celebrate the gallery’s Chicago roots while positioning itself as a global hub for contemporary art.
Time of Our Lives is on view at The Mass at 5-11-1 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 150-0001 from September 28th to October 20th, 2024.
