Natsuki Shibata
Natsuki Shibata (b. 1989, Japan) currently lives and works near Kyoto. Growing up, he was surrounded by ceramics made by his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. When he enrolled at Kanazawa College of Art in Japan, Natsuki initially focused on metal sculpture. Later, he shifted to ceramic sculpture, building on the expertise deeply rooted in his family heritage. Through his characters, Natsuki seeks to change the narrative around clay and the ancient techniques of ceramics that have been recognized for centuries. His work combines strong technical discipline with a great dose of creativity, resulting in vibrant, colorful pieces that reflect his cultural influences and aim to break down barriers—whether cultural, geographic, or gender-related.
