Mikey Coleman (b. 1998, Chicago) is an artistic maximalist, employing oversized figures and absurd subject matter in each of his action-packed compositions. His paintings walk the tightrope between cartoon caricature and pop-culture kitsch, exploring the interactions between childhood aesthetics, memory, and modern iconography. His most recent work delves into the dystopian landscape of a childhood shaped by the American media, illuminating its profound impact on his generation’s worldview.
Raised on the west side of Chicago, he graduated from the Chicago High School of the Arts in 2013 with a primary focus on painting and drawing. He lives and works in the city to this day.
