February James’s Will Your Name Be My Love Song? draws inspiration from the multifaceted nature of love and its capacity to challenge the masses. Whether a portrait deciphers the bond between parents, lovers, strangers, or friends, paintings reflect on the cyclical nature of relationships and the transformative powers they hold.
James’s practice is deeply intertwined with the emotional engagement of her audience. Upon encountering a portrait, seeping watercolor figures transform into characters written by the viewer’s subconscious. Each form invites the projection of individual experiences and memories. This dance of artistic intention and collective interpretation, of material input and psychic output, yields new modes of interpersonal discovery.
