This Not Even All My Jewelry is a solo exhibition of work by Daniel Fleur. Fleur bridges art history and contemporary visual culture by translating modern fragments through the meticulous techniques of the Old Masters. This commitment to realism operates as both tribute and inquiry, allowing Fleur to trace the nuances of modern experience where beauty, material desire, and social hierarchies intersect.Rendered with a striking degree of precision, Fleur’s paintings carry a near-tactile quality, recalling the immediacy of cinematic stills or fleeting street encounters. In This Not Even All My Jewelry,the polished surfaces of jeweled adornments stand in sharp contrast to the softness of the body, creating a visual tension between material and flesh. These elements assert themselves vividly, bold, luminous, and unapologetic.

In this body of work, Fleur moves beyond the anonymous ambiguity of his earlier paintings, engaging more directly with shared visual culture. Using pop-cultural references and jewelry traditions across different contexts, he is drawn to imagery that is widely circulated and easily recognized, yet exists in the space between aspiration and familiarity.

Central to Fleur’s series is jewelry, a motif that carries different meanings depending on cultural and social context. Drawing on shared visual codes, his references range from cinematic touchstones like Breakfast at Tiffany’sand The Great Gatsbyto figures such as Princess Diana, Marilyn Monroe, Pharrell Williams, Nigo, and Ye—icons whose fame amplifies the allure of adornment.

Fleur captures fleeting moments of pleasure, often sparked through acts of acquisition, as central points of tension: the initial rush of desire gradually gives way to familiarity, and objects once imbued with meaning recede into the ordinary. Yet these works resist a singular reading as mere symbols of status or consumption. Instead, they position style as a form of visual dialogue, where adornment operates across multiple registers—intimate and performative, personal and collective. Objects of desire emerge as sites of negotiation, suspended between these overlapping worlds.
