Henry Swanson (b. 1993) grew up in Dallas, Texas. His oeuvre references feelings of nostalgia, specifically toys that serve as visual abstractions in his paintings and mixed media work. These abstractions survey parts of Swanson’s upbringing in Dallas and his obsession with comics. The artist’s works require viewers to investigate double meanings and probe for answers through the subjects of his paintings. Exploring themes of luxury, familial happiness, American environments, childhood trauma, and parent-child relationships, through intricate materials are interests within this artist’s work. Not only does Swanson bring to life details through painting, but also leverages an array of techniques on varying mediums with boldness and craftsmanship. He graduated with a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design (2016). The artist has featured work in a number of solo and group exhibitions both in the U.S. and internationally, with his most recent work shown in Marbella, Spain.
