Martine Syms

Martine Syms (b. 1988, Los Angeles, CA) film, video, and installation-based artworks are characterized by their biting wit and research-focused commentary. Encompassing publishing, performance, photography, and software programming, her expansive practice centers on performed and imposed identities as they connect to digital versions of the self. Resulting artworks challenge assumptions concerning racial and gender inequality in relation to radical traditions. Syms lives and works in Los Angeles.

Syms obtained an MFA from Bard College in Annandale-On-Hudson, New York (2017) and a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2007).
