Hajime Sorayama
Hajime Sorayama’s (b. 1943, Japan) airbrushed illustrations of erotic humanoid robots explore ideals of femininity, empowerment, and beauty. Since the 1980’s, his sensual cyborg constructions have enjoyed cult acclaim and garnered commercial attention across the realms of fashion, sculpture, film, and performance. In addition to numerous creative collaborations with international luxury brands, his career is marked by its resounding contributions to technological innovation, both in Japan and beyond.
Sorayama won the 1999 Good Design Award (Japanese Ministry of Trade and Industry) and the Media Arts Festival Grand Prize for his work with Sony on the concept design for the robot AIBO. He currently lives and works in Tokyo, Japan.
